BAPMAN Mission 6: Continuous air monitoring operations, measurement data training, and data acquisition interface development. NILU OR

Randall, S.; Sivertsen, B.; Dauge, F.; Gjerstad, K.I.; Clemetsen, T.

The Bangladesh Air Pollution Management (BAPMAN) project is an institutional-building project where NILU lends the necessary Air Quality Management (AQM) tools and associated training to the Clean Air and Sustainable Environment (CASE) program at the Department of Environment (DoE). Mission 6 of the BAPMAN project occurred in Dhaka from 13-18 October 2012 where the target of the mission was to continue Task 2 training (CAMS QA/QC), continue Task 1 training (AirQUIS monitoring), and to develop a data retrieval interface for the AirQUIS server (Task 3).

NORTRIP model development and documentation: NOn-exhaust Road TRaffic Induced Particle emission modelling. NILU OR

Denby, B.R.; Sundvor, I.

The NORTRIP model is the result of research efforts carried out by a number of Nordic institutes to improve our understanding and ability to model non-exhaust traffic emissions and has been developed through the Nordic Council of Ministers project NORTRIP (NOn-exhaust Road Traffic Induced Particle emissions). The NORTRIP model is a process based non-exhaust emission model that is intended for application without site specific empirical factors. It takes into account direct wear emissions, the build up of mass on the road surface, the suspension of this mass, as well as the application and suspension of salt and sand. It combines a road dust sub-model with a road moisture sub-model in order to properly describe the retention of dust on the road surface. The model can be applied for assessment purposes and for the management and evaluation of abatement strategies regarding road wear, salting and sanding. The model development and its documentation, along with its application to a large number of Nordic datasets, is described in detail in this report.

NORTRIP emission model user guide. NILU TR

Denby, B.R.

The NORTRIP emission model has been developed at NILU, in conjunction with other Nordic institutes, to model non-exhaust traffic induced emissions. This short summary document explains how to run the NORTRIP model from the MATLAB environment or by using the executable user interface version. It also provides brief information on input files and the model architecture.

Possible future petroleum activity west of the delimitation line in the Barents Sea South. Consequences of emissions to air. NILU OR

Solberg, S.; Svendby, T.; Gjerstad, K.I.; Liu, L.; Wathne, B.M.; Skjelkvåle, B.L.; Høgåsen, T.; Aarrestad, P.A.; Gjershaug, J.O.

Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU), Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) and the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) have concidered the effects on the environment of emissions of NOx, SO2 and particulate matter into the air from any future petroleum activity in Barents-sea. It is estimated deposition of nitrogen, sulfur and particulates - also formation of ozone is calculated. It is also considered what effect it has on nature. Calculations indicate that emissions most likely will not lead to negative effects on vegetation and fauna of the terrestrial impact area.

Possible future petroleum activity around Jan Mayen. Consequences of emissions to air. NILU OR

Solberg, S.; Svendby, T.; Gjerstad, K.I.; Liu, L.; Wathne, B.M.; Skjelkvåle, B.L.; Høgåsen, T.; Aarrestad, P.A.; Gjershaug, J.O.

Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU), Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) and the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) have concidered the effects on the environment of emissions of NOx, SO2 and particulate matter into the air from any future petroleum activity in the waters around Jan Mayen. It is estimated deposition of nitrogen, sulfur and particulates - also formation of ozone is calculated. It is also considered what effect it has on nature. Calculations indicate that emissions most likely will not lead to negative effects on vegetation and fauna of the terrestrial impact area.

Air quality monitoring in the border areas of Norway and Russia - progress report April 2011-March 2012. NILU OR

Berglen, T.F.; Andresen, E.; Arnesen, K.; Nilsson, L.O.; Ofstad, T.; Rode, A.; Tønnesen, D.; Vadset, M.

The nikkel smelters in NW Russia close to the Norwegian border emits large quantities of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and heavy metals. These emissions lead to enhanced concentrations of environmental pollutants in the border areas, also at the Norwegian side of the border. This report is part of the national environmental monitoring program and includes air quality monitoring, precipitation chemistry and meteorology.

Air quality measurements in the vicinity of Finnfjord AS. NILU OR

Hak, C.

NILU was assigned by Finnfjord AS to carry out measurements of SO2 and NO2 at 15 locations in the Finnfjord area. The monthly concentrations which were measured in the period october 2011 ¿ april 2011 were assessed with respect to Klif¿s recommended air quality criteria and EU limit values, as well as existing model results. The results were also compared to similar measurements performed in 1996.
The halfyear average concentrations of SO2 and NO2 are significantly lower than the recommended air quality criteria and ranged between 2,2 µg/m3 and 4,0 µg/m3 for SO2, with the highest values close to the smelter. For NO2, the halfyear average was between 1,8 µg/m3 and 6,8 µg/m3, with the highest concentration occurring in Finnsnes. Some locations on Senja showed higher concentrations of both SO2 and NO2 than in the Finnfjord area.
The concentration distribution of SO2 and NO2 mapped as result of the measurements differs from the model results, where the highest levels are exected between Finnfjord AS and Gisund bridge and in the direction of Rossfjordvatnet.
