Cytotoxicity testing is often used as an initial screening for the potential toxicity of a test substance, and thus the risk of health damage.

At NILU’s health effects laboratory, we investigate cytotoxicity using various quantitative methods that measure cell death/cell survival after exposure of human and mammalian cell cultures from different organs.
Cytotoxicity testing can also be performed in advanced 3D models (lung and liver).
Validated Test Methods:
We conduct a wide range of validated tests that include:
- Plating Efficiency Assay (OECD test guideline 476)
- Trypan Blue Exclusion Assay
- Relative Growth Activity Assay
- Cell Proliferation Assay
- Colony Forming Efficiency Assay
