Nielsen takes up his new position as CEO at the Swedish Environmental Research Institute IVL on 1 January 2024.
Since John Rune Nielsen joined NILU a little over two years ago, NILU, IFE and NIVA have together formed the research alliance NORIN. NILU has also opened a subsidiary institute in Sweden, the NILU Klimat- och miljöinstitutet.
“It has been some exciting years, getting to know NILU and launch a rather progressive strategy. The turnover is up 30%, we are an attractive institute growing each day, and have taken on important roles in the Norwegian and European research and innovations system. It is a well developing, highly competitive and attractive NILU fit for the future that I now hand over to Aasmund Fahre Vik and his colleagues in the management team”, says John Rune Nielsen.
At the turn of the year, Deputy CEO and CTO Aasmund Fahre Vik will temporarily step in as acting CEO of NILU.
“NILU is a research institute with strong and sought-after professional expertise, solid finances and a clear strategy for future growth”, says Aasmund Fahre Vik. “Our plan is to keep full speed ahead and follow the steady course we have set out together with John Rune. We wish him the best of luck at IVL and look forward to cooperation in the Nordic research and innovation system.”
