Kartlegging av svevestøv i datasenter på Fet. Måling av PM10 og PM2,5 hos Digiplex. NILU rapport

Uggerud, H. T.

NILU was commissioned by Digiplex to map the presence of airborne dust in their data centre located at Fet, Romerike. The purpose of the project was to map the concentrations of airborne dust (PM10and PM2,5 )in a corridor and a server room, as well as assess the results against recommended values given by FHI and limit values given by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairsin 'Forskrift for tiltaks-og grenseverdier'. Generally, the measured concentrationsof both particle fractions were very low. All measured concentration of PM2,5 lies far below FHI's recommended values for PM2,5 in indoor air. 8-hour average measured for PM10shows a concentration level far lower than the limit value given by Arbeids- og sosialdepartementet in 'Forskrift for tiltaks-og Grenseverdier'. This also applies to the measured concentration of Zn as compared to the limit value given in the same regulation.

Målinger i Lillestrøm sentrum for utredning av hovedkilder til svevestøvforurensning. NILU rapport

Hak, C.

A measurement project to investigate the main pollutants that contribute to PM pollution in Lillestrøm was conducted during the period February - April 2017. The project was a collaborative research project with Skedsmo municipality. Measurements of particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10), light absorption of particles (black carbon, BC) and particle size distributions were conducted in Vollaparken in the centre of Lillestrøm. An important source of PM was combustion, i.e. diesel engines and wood burning. For PM10 also resuspension of road dust is an important contribution. During the measurement period, traffic emissions were the main contribution from combustion. It was relatively mild during the measurement period and stable inversion periods were not observed. Therefore, the contribution from wood burning was low and there were no pollution episodes due to accumulation of emissions.

Oslo Citizens' Observatory. Results from the Oslo Empowerment Initiative as part of the CITI-SENSE project. NILU report

Castell, N.; Grossberndt, S.

The CITI-SENSE project has been created to develop Citizens' Observatories in different cities in Europe. By using a variety of low-cost sensors, citizens should be empowered to influence community policy and decision making in the area of air quality. In the framework of this project, we carried out different case studies (Empowerment Initiatives - EIs) in the fields of Urban Air Quality, Public Spaces and School Indoor Air Quality in the following nine cities: Barcelona (Spain), Belgrade (Serbia), Edinburgh (UK), Haifa (Israel), Oslo (Norway), Ostrava (Czech Republic), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Vienna (Austria) and Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain).
This document reports the results from the activities within the Oslo Citizens' Observatory, carried out between December 2015 and September 2016. In this report, we present tools that have been used, results from collected data and measurements and the users¿ evaluation of the tools and the project activities in Oslo. We wrap up with some concluding remarks and the lessons learned for engaging the public in environmental monitoring.

Deposition of major inorganic compounds in Norway 2012-2016. NILU report

Aas, W.; Hjellbrekke, A.-G.; Fagerli, H.; Benedictov, A.

This report contains estimates of atmospheric deposition of major inorganic compounds in Norway for the period 2012 to 2016 using two different methods, one observational based method while the other combining atmospheric transport model with observations. Both methods show similar clear spatial gradient in the atmospheric deposition with highest loads in south and south-west. The combined method has improved the spatial information of the deposition pattern for wet deposition. For dry deposition, there are quite large uncertainties in the estimated dry deposition velocities in both methods. Compared to the previous period 2007-2011, there is a decrease in the total sulfur deposition in Norway of 9%. For total nitrogen there are minor changes. Compared to the 1978-1982 period, the reductions in sulfur and nitrogen depositions are 75% and 20% respectively.

Monitoring of greenhouse gases and aerosols at Svalbard and Birkenes in 2016 - Annual report. NILU report

Myhre, C. L.; Svendby, T.; Hermansen, O.; Lunder, C.; Fiebig, M.; Hansen, G.; Schmidbauer, N.; Krognes, T.

The report summaries the activities and results of the greenhouse gas monitoring at the Zeppelin Observatory situated on Svalbard in Arctic Norway during the period 2001-2016, and the greenhouse gas monitoring and aerosol observations from Birkenes for 2009-2016.

Johan Castberg oil field - Assessment of emissions to air. NILU rapport

Berglen, T. F.; Tønnesen, D.; Solberg, S.

The environmental impact of future emissions from activities at the Johan Castberg oil field has been investigated. Concerning emissions of CO2, CH4 og NMVOC, the total emissions rank Johan Castberg as a medium size field in Norway. For NOX and SOX, the environmental impact from deposition is considered to be small. Concerning formation of ozone from NOX emissions, the model estimates give an increase of N120 (number of days with 8-hrs running mean value higher than 120 µg/m3 ), up from 10 to 11. Effects of Black Carbon emissions from Johan Castberg is also estimated, and the climate impact is considered to be small.

Screening of PFAS and Dechlorane compounds in selected Arctic top predators. NILU report

Schlabach, M.; Gabrielsen, G. W.; Herzke, D.; Hanssen, L.; Routti, H.; Borgen, A.

This report summarizes the findings of a screening study into the occurrence of selected perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) and dechloranes in Arctic top predators. The emerging PFCs F53 F53B, and PFBS were not detected neither in bird eggs nor in mammals. However, different dechloranes were detected in all samples.

UN/ECE International co-operative programme on effects on materials, including historic and cultural monuments. Environmental data report. October 2014 to October 2015. Report no. 81. NILU report

Grøntoft, T.; Ferm, M.

This report presents the ICP Materials database for the period October 2014 - October 2015. It includes environmental data from the ICP Materials trend exposure programme for 2014 - 2015. The database consists of meteorological data (T and RH) and pollution data as gas concentrations, amounts of ions in precipitation, particle concentrations and amounts of particle deposition.

Air quality monitoring in the border areas of Norway and Russia - progress report 2016. NILU rapport

Berglen, T. F.; Dauge, F.; Andresen, E.; Svendby, T. M.; Tønnesen, D.; Vadset, M.; Våler, R. L.

The nickel smelters in NW Russia emit large quantities of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and heavy metals. These emissions lead to enhanced concentrations of environmental pollutants in the border areas. The monitoring programme shows that air quality in Karpdalen violates Norwegian limit values for SO2 hourly mean values and daily mean values in 2016, as well as seasonal mean winter 2015/16.
