NILU  is a Norwegian non-profit climate and environmental research institute. We carry out small and large assignments for management, industry and business, for the Research Council of Norway and the EU.

Atmosphere and climate

NILU is a leading expert insti­tution on measurement and modelling of atmospheric transport processes. Our specialists are internationally recognised and are frequently cited in international literature.

Urban air quality

NILU offers advice and research-based knowledge about pollution sources and emissions, as well as measurement, monitoring and modelling of air quality.

Environmental contaminants

Our laboratories carry out customised analyses and offer research services related to environmental contaminants.

Environment and health

NILU offers research-based studies of exposure to and effects of pollution, to gain a more comprehensive understanding of environment and health risks.

Innovation

Innovation is important for the development of a knowledge-based society, and NILU is actively working across our research areas to increase the rate of innovation at the Institute.

Environmental monitoring is important in order to study and understand variations in the composition of the atmosphere, the climate system and the effects of climate change.

Laboratory services:

Chemical analyses

NILU’s organic and inorganic laboratories cover a wide range of analytical techniques and have accumulated a high level of expertise. We develop methods adapted to the customer’s problem.

Environmental forensics

NILU offers analyses and services to industry and authorities in environmental issues for the purpose of identifying legal and illegal emissions and pollutants to the environment.

Toxicity testing

NILU studerer toksisitet av naturlige og menneskeskapte stoffer ved å bruke celler fra mennesker og pattedyr. Vi kan undersøke potensiell toksisitet av de fleste stoffer, men har hovedfokus på miljøforurensning, små partikler og nanomaterialer.
